For both recovery and mobility, stretching your knees will keep them happy! For one thing, the ability to bend and straighten you knees will help you get up and down from the ground with greater ease.

In each stretch, you'll notice that you also have to do some work! Engaging the opposing muscle group while you stretch will keep you strong in that range of motion and encourage the stretched muscle to relax (a concept called reciprocal inhibition).

Quadriceps Stretch: Be sure to put a mat or some padding beneath the knee if you need it! While performing this stretch, engage the glute (tush muscles!) while you stretch the front of the thigh. The further you knee is from the couch, the less intense the stretch will be. Hold for 30-60 seconds on each side, and slowly work your way closer to the couch over time

.

Hamstring Stretch: With your forefoot elevated, fold forward from your hips to stretch behind the knee. Engage the quadriceps muscles (the front of the thigh) to keep your knee straight and hold for 30-60 seconds on each side.

Note: Before starting any new exercise program, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider to ensure safety and suitability for your specific needs and limitations.
